Edgecomb public access
Dear Editor:
In previous years, the people of Edgecomb have voted to deposit boat excise tax, usually around $8,000, into the Woodend fund for the purchase and improvement of property to allow public access to the water to residents who unlike myself and other shore property owners, have no private access to these great natural resources.
Last year I asked the selectmen to once again put the article on the town warrant as it passed the year before. Instead they suggested funding the harbor master and the waterfront committee with these funds.
I feel it is more important to continue to build the Woodend fund, which has been building for decades to allow the town to provide the non-shore property owners with access to the water when a suitable piece becomes available. Only those of us who have private access get to use the waterfront or the harbor. Should we fund a harbor most cannot get to?
Once again, I will ask the selectmen to put the question back on the ballot. If they will not I will take a day off to gather signatures to put it on by petition, seems like a waist of a day but I feel it is important.
I do feel all of the public should have access.
