Elise Roberts memorial Dec. 15
Friends of Elise Roberts are invited to a special memorial in her honor on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Boothbay Harbor Rotary clubhouse between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Monica Churchill, a close friend of Roberts, teamed with Rotarians Brenda Blackman, Annette Stormont and Linda Foster to coordinate the tribute. It is being described as an open house where people can come and go informally and chat about Roberts, who died Oct. 8 after a brief illness.
According to Churchill, discussions about a memorial for Roberts started in November. “She was unbelievably unselfish and generous,” Churchill said, adding, Roberts was one of her best friends. She was active in the garden club and Roberts and her husband Doug owned Oak Street Provisions. Years ago, Roberts was also a part-owner of Curves at the small mall. Roberts also worked for Blackman at First National Bank.
The memorial is also an opportunity to raise funds for local charities. A silent auction will be held and gift cards and baskets for the auction have been donated by Capers, St. Andrews Thrift Shop, Cathy Latter, First National Bank, Blackman and Clapp, among others. The funds raised will go to Boothbay Region Health Center and to the Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor for its work with local charities.
Wine, beer and punch will be offered and the bar will accept donations. Snacks will also be provided.
Those wishing to bring food for the memorial may do so and auction items should be brought to First National Bank in Boothbay Harbor. For more information about donating items or cash to the Elise Roberts memorial fund, call Blackman at 633-5159, ext. 2302.
“She was unbelievable about the holidays,” Churchill said of her friend. “Christmas is a good time to have a gathering in her memory.”
Blackman hopes “everyone will show up and have a great time.”
