'Exhibition on Screen' at Harbor Theater
Harbor Theater’s much-loved art film series Exhibition on Screen returns Oct. 19 with a few new flourishes. First, the series has moved to Saturday afternoons so that audience members whose work week does not offer them the chance to attend weekday matinees can now also see these special films that are only shown once a month.
Second, the series now includes a delectable food component. Called “Art a la Carte,” this special ticket offers audience members the film plus wine and afternoon snacks such as cheeses, fruits and pastries. “Art a la Carte” tickets are $13 for members and $17 for adult non-members. “Film only” tickets will also still be available at our regular ticket rates: $12 Adult, $8 Members. Candy and sodas are still available at Concessions for the usual cost.
The 2024-25 Exhibition On Screen schedule begins with “My National Gallery: London” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. The National Gallery of London is one of the world’s greatest art galleries. It is full of masterpieces, an endless resource of history, an endless source of stories. But whose stories are told? Which art has the most impact and on whom?
The power of great art lies in its ability to communicate with anyone, no matter their art historical knowledge, their background, their beliefs. Each interviewee identifies the one artwork which means the most to them, with this diverse cross section of society making surprising choices of both well-known masterpieces and hidden gems. These stories are used as a lens through which to explore the 200-year history of the National Gallery and what the future may hold for this spectacular space.
Other films in the series include “Van Gogh, Poets and Lovers” on Nov. 23, “Dawn of Impressionism” on March 22, and “Michaelangelo: Love and Death” on May 24.
As an additional treat, and by special request from numerous audience members, we are also bringing back “Jamie Wyeth and the Unflinching Eye” on Jan. 18th!
All of the films in this series will include the art a la carte option, so join us on Saturday afternoons in October, November, January, March and May for art on film, social time with friends, and an afternoon nibble and tipple!
