Letter to the Editor
Extreme gratitude
Dear Editor:
We have never had the misfortune of being involved with, or a victim of, a fire.
As of May 11 we can no longer say that. While our experience is very minor compared to some that have lost a lot more if not everything. We feel that what did happen could have been a lot worse for a lot of people.
Friday Afternoon a call came in to report a fire in a wooded area on the Bradford Road on our property. Several firemen were on the scene within minutes, ready to fight the forest fire with basic backpacks and hand tools until many more firefighters were to arrive shortly thereafter.
My understanding, that this forest fire while not large by some standards, was at times very unpredictable due to the gusting and swirling winds, which pushed the fire uphill in a direction towards many homes including ours.
We believe that this fire could have easily gotten out of control if not for the quick response of the Wiscasset Fire Department and all of the firefighters that voluntarily dropped what they were doing at around 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon to save any "real damage" of property from happening.
We would like to thank all of the departments, Woolwich, Westport, Dresden, Alna, Newcastle and of course Wiscasset, for "doing what you do." We are very grateful that you folks unselfishly give your time and at times risk your lives, whenever you are called upon!
