FARMS Community Kitchen hosts food preservation workshop
The FARMS Community Kitchen above Damariscotta’s Rising Tide Community Market is now open. This month schoolchildren, teenagers, parents and grandparents from all over Lincoln County are beginning to sign up for hands-on cooking classes in the now complete Community Kitchen.
On Oct. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m., FARMS and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer a hands-on, three-hour food preservation workshop entitled “Preserving the Harvest.”
Participants will learn about recommended methods for preserving foods, the latest and safest recipes, equipment to insure safety and how to check for properly sealed jars. There is a materials fee of $15 per person.
Participants will receive a “Preserving the Harvest” food preservation packet and will take home a jar of pear ginger jam. Participants should bring a potholder to the workshop.
