Frederick Landry author talk
Join us at the Midcoast Friends Meetinghouse in Damariscotta on Wednesday, June 21 at 5:30 p.m. to hear author Frederick Landry talk and share about his book, “Anchor of Faith.” The book looks at the inception of the Black Men's Gathering in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1987 and its impact and meaning in the years following. Landry is the son of local residents Frederick and Rosalee Landry.
“Anchor of Faith: The Enduring Spirit of the Black Men's Gathering” gives us a glimpse of the vibrant spirit of the Gathering, details its history, evolution, and influence, and brings to light the countless avenues of service pursued by its participants both at home and across the globe. “It is a remarkable story of healing and hope, which is still so needed in these times,” Rosalee points out.
Born of the need to address the plight of men of African descent in the United States, and the unique afflictions imposed upon them, the Black Men's Gathering was founded in 1987 by a small group of Baha’is. Frederick’s co-author, Richard Thomas, was one of the founding group of 12 participants. From its humble origins in a Greensboro hotel room, the Gathering would grow and evolve over the course of a quarter-century to embrace hundreds in an atmosphere of love, fellowship, and devotion. Frederick’s personal story includes his own experience participating in the Gathering. The book is available as an e-book and in paperback.
The Friends Meetinghouse is located at 77 Belvedere Road in Damariscotta. For more information or directions, contact Rosalee and David at (207) 563-6741.
