Get a new energy efficient water heater for a few hundred dollars
Dear Editor:
A little publicized rebate from Efficiency Maine will give a homeowner a $750 rebate on a new heat-pump Hybrid water heater that uses heat from your cellar much like a refrigerator in reverse to heat your hot water. When more hot water is needed than it can heat this way it also has electric heating coils to heat your water.
In addition to the $750 rebate there is a $250 federal tax credit that will go on your 2020 tax return. There are some limitations; you need a fairly large cellar to provide enough head pump air and the height of the units are a bit taller than a regular water heater. These water heaters also save about $300 a year in energy consumption.
This rebate ends June 30 and the tax credit is only good for purchases through Dec. 31.
Who knows what they will offer next year.
This was such a good deal I bought one last month.
