Halcyon String Quartet brings McCloskey to Lincoln Theater
The romantic French poet Alphonse de Lamartine once said, “Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends,” and Damariscotta’s historic Lincoln Theater aims to make those words a reality as we welcome Halcyon String Quartet for a very special presentation.
On Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. Halcyon String Quartet brings both music and literature together in their third annual family performance focused on Robert McCloskey’s beloved children’s book, “Make Way for Ducklings.” At just under an hour, this is an event perfect for audiences of all ages!
In collaboration with local actor Ben Meader, Halcyon’s presentation of “Make Way for Ducklings” combines music, story, and illustration in an engaging performance suitable for all ages. Musical selections include classical favorites and Halcyon String Quartet’s lively renditions of folk tunes and nostalgic songs from childhood. Halcyon often collaborates with musicians and artists from around Maine and beyond to create programs that build partnerships with local community organizations and folks from all walks of life. Each concert draws upon word, art, and music to tell a heartfelt and relevant story.
In addition to offering public performances throughout Maine, Halcyon will perform the program for over 700 students through a series of free in-school matinees. Students from Great Salt Bay School, South Bristol School, Riley School, and Coastal Christian School will attend a special matinee presentation at the Lincoln Theater during the school day on April 5th. Special thanks go out to Bath Savings Bank for supporting Lincoln Theater in bringing this free programming to our area schools.
