Hancock Lumber welcomes Smith as new general manager in Damariscotta
Hancock Lumber is excited to welcome Mark Smith as the new general manager of our Damariscotta location. He brings extensive experience in the lumber and building materials industry to his new role, including time spent in the retail and wholesale arenas in various capacities with Ring’s End, Seacoast Building Supply, Emery-Waterhouse, and most recently, Ware Butler. Mark officially started with Team Hancock in April and has already made a great impact.
Mark and his wife grew up in Connecticut where he started working for DF Bedients, the oldest hardware store in the nation. During this time, he also served in the Marine Corps as an ejection seat, cockpit pressurization, and avionics cooling mechanic on the F-4 Phantom fighter jets (so cool!). Mark and his family moved to Maine in 1997 where they spent the next 17 years before moving back to Connecticut. In 2021, a professional opportunity enabled Mark and his family to return to Maine.
“We love being back. I have spent my life in this industry—half in retail, the other half in wholesale and have enjoyed it all. The camaraderie and genuineness of the people are great. I am eager to work with Hancock Lumber, a company that has always been held in high esteem in this industry, and being part of this team,” said Smith.
From all of us at Team Hancock, welcome aboard Mark and thanks for choosing Hancock Lumber! Our general manager position opened up due to an internal promotion—former Damariscotta GM, Eric Dolloff, recently earned a promotion to regional general manager overseeing five retail locations in Maine, including the one he used to manage.
