Judy Nixon art on display
Until she moved to Bristol in 1999, Judy Nixon had lived most of her life in Massachusetts. Her profession in the accounting field was her early focus, but in the mid '90s she started drawing and painting as a hobby. She and her husband fell in love with the beauty and small town atmosphere of the Bristol area. They loved the seashore with its rockbound coast as well as the farmland and lake areas found inland.
Nixon soon discovered their surroundings had a lot to offer anyone interested in the arts, and she became involved in art groups and associations. She studied with several of the artists in her area and learned a great deal, not only from the talented instructors, but also from her fellow students. Although her primary medium is watercolor, Nixon also enjoys Asian brush, painting in acrylics and oils, and creating monotypes and collages. Additionally, she uses images of her artwork to make unique notecards and calendars.
Nixon’s art can be seen at the library during the month of February (business hours of Tuesday from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.)
Nixon is a member of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation, the Pemaquid Group of Artists at Pemaquid Lighthouse Park, the Kennebec Valley Art Association in Hallowell, the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset, and River Arts in Damariscotta. She has also participated in local art exhibits and benefit auctions in the area, and has been accepted into and received awards at juried shows in the Augusta and Midcoast regions.
