In honor of Youth Art Month, the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts is proud to present Maine K-12 Clay, a unique exhibition showcasing the incredible talent of young ceramic artists from across the state. This first-of-its-kind exhibition will feature works by over 50 K-12 students from 11 schools throughout Maine. The event celebrates the creativity and dedication of local youth in the medium of clay highlighting the diverse and innovative ceramics created by the next generation of artists.
The exhibition dates are Tuesday, March 4 - Friday, March 28. The opening reception will be held March 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. It will provide an opportunity to meet the artists, view their work, and celebrate the importance of arts education in the lives of Maine’s youth.
Artists are from these participating schools: Belfast Area High School, Freeport Middle School, Kents Hill School, Lincoln Academy, Lisbon High School, Marshwood High School, Penquis Valley, Richmond Middle and High schools, Waynflete School and Wiscasset Middle High School.
The exhibition will be held in the Barkan Gallery at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, located at 103 Cochran Road, Edgecomb. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a range of student-created ceramic art, from functional pieces to sculptural works, all demonstrating the artistic potential of Maine’s youth.
This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see the talent and passion of young artists as they explore the medium of ceramics. Each piece reflects the individual creativity and technical skills developed through the guidance of dedicated teachers and mentors in Maine’s schools.

Founded in 1986, Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts transformed an abandoned brick factory into an incubator for creativity and community in contemporary craft. Internationally known for our residencies, which provide artists time and space to explore ideas with clay, we also offer ceramic workshops, gallery exhibitions, public programs, and our beloved annual festival, Salad Days.
