Making Strides Against Breast Cancer parade held
The “Pink Your Ride” parade Oct. 17 was a fun way to recognize and celebrate breast cancer survivors. The parade wound through Newcastle and Damariscotta receiving cheers and other encouragement from the pedestrians on the street. The participants showed their creativity and spirit in the many ways they decorated their vehicles. It was a good turnout despite the weather.
But the work is not done. There is still time to show your support for Making Strides. You can join the effort in several ways. Take time to walk your favorite route and think about the many women and men who are just learning their breast cancer diagnosis, or going through chemo or making daily trips for radiation. Challenge yourself at the gym to walk longer or push harder on one the treadmill. But, the easiest thing to do is to donate. No matter which option you chose, go to makingstrideswalk.org/damariscotta.me and donate. Do it to honor a friend, neighbor, or family member who has lost the battle against breast cancer or celebrate someone who is still in the fight.
Breast cancer is still a leading cause of death for women. Breast cancer diagnosis are increasing. We can improve their chance of survival by increasing funding for research and resources. We can do that by participating in the Making Strides events and donating.
