Martha Stewart Living features Wiscasset landmark
The Marston House, on the corner of Main Street and Middle Street, in Wiscasset, is being featured in the January issue of Martha Stewart Living Magazine, on newsstands now.
Sharon and Paul Mrozinski opened The Marston House in 1987, shortly after moving to Wiscasset from California. The 18th century building serves dual purposes. Upstairs is lodging and downstairs are the Mrozinski's antique showrooms.
“We are thrilled to have been noticed, recognized and featured by Martha Stewart and her staff,” Sharon Mrozinski said. “It is always a great pleasure to be included in any well-known national publication.
“Since our arrival in 1987 we have been featured in a number of national magazines, which has been wonderful for us, but also wonderful for Wiscasset Village.
“People still come in holding onto a magazine article they have savored for years hoping they will someday come.
“They spend a day or two shopping the village and often spend the night at The Marston House. Once a fan of The Marston House and the other great antique shops and businesses in the Wiscasset Village, they often return again and again,” she said.
The Marston House has been feature in the Boston Globe; Home Garden Magazine; County Home; Victoria Magazine and others.
The Boston Globe said, “The Marston house, a combination antique shop and a bed and breakfast is one of the town’s finest attractions. The 18th century sea captain’s house is a must stop for serious antiques buyers.”
Despite its national recognition, Sharon Mrozinski said The Marston House is not well-known by locals. “Often our B&B clients tell us they have asked the locals and other local businesses where the Marston House B&B is and few seem to know, even though we are literally in the dead center of the village at Main and Middle Streets,” she said.
The Mrozinskis consider themselves a team; he has an architectural practice and she has an antique business specializing in 18th and 19th century textiles and furnishings.
Paul Mrozinski grew up in a Polish neighborhood in Chicago, a city of architecture, public sculpture and culture.
Sharon Mrozinski grew up in the Arizona desert. She said she loved the freedom, clarity and survival skills the desert provided her and found the ever present impact of Mother Nature an inspiration.
The Mrozinskis have a home in Southern France and live there nearly half the year, traveling and buying antique textiles and furnishings for the shop, designers, decorators, architects, the film industry and the antiques trade.
The pair said they dig deep to find pieces and places that speak to them, things that they can live with and places that they can live in forever.
Since they are merchants and not collectors, the pieces the Mrozinskis find are like the homes they create: always ready to be shared with their family, friends and clients.
