Mid-Coast Audubon announces spring birding field trips
The month of May is when the movement of neo-tropical migrants north begins in earnest. Accordingly, “warbler-neck”, an affliction that affects those who seek views of beautiful, tiny wood warblers high in the trees, is the condition of the day. Thrushes, singing from the forest floor, delight with their repertoires. Tanagers, Grosbeaks and other species astonish with their beauty.
Mid-Coast Audubon, emerging from our Covid-dictated inactivity, has decided to recommence spring birding field trips 2021. There will be protective limits, at least initially including: the previously mandated social distancing and mask wearing is required for all attendees; there will be no carpooling unless those wishing to do so have all been fully vaccinated. We will not meet at a central point and carpool to the field trip site, instead will meet at the site; and, those participants that have a scope should bring it because sharing of scopes is discouraged.
All seven field trips from May 1 to June 8, from Searsport, Augusta, to Portland, are listed at https://midcoast.maineaudubon.org/events/, with details on each trip, specific meeting locations, and what time to meet. Birders of all ages and skill levels are welcome.
Mid-Coast Audubon’s mission is to promote long-term, responsible use of natural resources through informed membership, education and community awareness.
