Midcoast Conservancy offers 'Bewildering Bolete Mushrooms' webinar
Mushroom expert Greg Marley will present an online workshop titled “Bewildering Bolete Mushrooms: So many, and challenging to learn” on Thursday, July 22, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The boletes are medium to large mushrooms with a sponge-like layer of tubes beneath the cap. They are very common forest mushrooms and grow frequently in yards and parks near trees. The group includes some very desirable edibles and a few toxic species that cause problems most years in Maine and New England. Maine mushroom author and teacher Marley will introduce the bolete mushrooms in Maine, concentrating on those that are commonly seen as well as a few great edibles and those that can sicken. This is a great talk for the mushroom novice who wants to begin taking on this confusing and rewarding group of beautiful mushrooms.
The cost of the course is $10 for Midcoast Conservancy members and $15 for non-members. Registered attendees will receive a packet of downloadable handouts supporting mushroom identification. To register, go to https://www.midcoastconservancy.org/events/bewildering-bolete-mushrooms-webinar/
Marley has been collecting, studying, eating, growing and teaching mushrooms for over 45 years. When not mushrooming, Marley works as a mental health clinician and behavioral health consultant specializing in suicide prevention across Maine.
