Midcoast Fiber Artists at library in May and June
Midcoast Fiber Artists group will be holding an exhibition May through June 2023 at the Southport Memorial Library in Southport. The show will feature diverse work from the group’s 23 members that will include high quality framed works, wall hangs, floor coverings, small furniture pieces and gift items.
Fiber art is an increasingly popular art form that offers qualities not often available in fine art: an attention to natural materials, texture and dimensionality – artwork that is soft, touchable, and approachable. The artists draw inspiration from floral, fauna, wildlife and our locale.
Techniques on display include rug hooking, weaving, felting and needlework, with both traditional and modern interpretations. The show will include a rare display of hooked rugs, a skilled technique that produces both rugs and wall hangings, with a strong historical connection to Maine and Canada. All artwork will be for sale.
Midcoast Fiber Artists was formed in 2014 by Susan Schweigard and Pamela Riml as a venture for rug hookers in our area. The group offers monthly exchange of ideas, techniques and information to inspire and support fiber artists.
The library, located at 1032 Hendricks Hill Road is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Phone: 207- 633-2741.
