‘The play’s the thing’: Audition for ‘Hamlet’
Heartwood announces auditions for its production of William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” set to open in late July.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14 between 3 and 4:30 p.m. at the Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy, 81 Academy Hill Road, in Newcastle. A snow date set for Saturday, Jan. 21 during the same hours.
Email director Griff Braley at braley@lincolnacademy.org for an audition time. Video submissions are welcome as a first point of contact.
All actors are required to prepare a monologue from “Hamlet” or another play by Shakespeare. Heartwood seeks cast members prepared for strong character making, capable of memorization early in the process, facility with classical language, and with skills in stage combat.
Roles will be assigned when suitable actors are found. Call back dates to be arranged.
Production start: First read through in April, date to be determined, via Zoom. Additional one-on-one meetings with primary characters, as possible, in April and May. Full cast rehearsals and meetings begin June 15. Tentative performance dates for five to eight shows: July 28 through Aug. 5.
