Restaurateurs plan grand opening
Davis Island Grill owners John Smigielski and Mark McGuy didn’t want to wait for summer to open their restaurant. They’re happy to see the tourists arrive, but they designed the Eddy Road, Edgecomb, business to serve area residents, Smigielski said.
“We’re here for the locals,” he said. That applies not only to the customers, but the choices the two men make in where they buy the food they serve. The produce is local and so are the lobsters.
The business opened last December, about as far off as tourist season gets. Even the leaf-peepers were gone. Business has been good, though, and now it’s time to celebrate. The restaurant, also known as The DIG, is planning a grand opening Saturday, July 7.
“We wanted the weather to be nice,” Smigielski said of the six-month wait for the event.
$10 in advance or $12 at the door buys a ticket. The event will feature the band “The Beat Horizon,” which does reggae, Latin and other music; and a 10- to 15-minute fireworks show by Pyro City, a business neighbor to the north on Route 1. Door prizes are also planned.
The music is set to start at 8 p.m., the fireworks at 9 p.m. or shortly after, the restaurant’s owners said.
