Summerfest canceled, mission continues
For over 35 years, the fourth Saturday in July has meant Summerfest in Wiscasset. Historically on this day, the town Common comes alive as the members and friends of the First Congregational Church UCC of Wiscasset hold their annual fundraising effort to support the vital work of over 20 local outreach organizations. It is supported widely by the generosity of community members and local businesses who donate each year to make it a success.
This year, out of an abundance of care and caution for the well-being of the volunteers and the wider community, the Church Council made the difficult decision to cancel Summerfest. However, while many will miss hunting for treasures among the yard sale items, buying handmade crafts and homemade goodies, watching the dog parade, having lunch on the common, and more, the mission to support the vital work of outreach organizations in our community continues.
The church has set a goal of raising $6,000 to continue supporting a number of these organizations. Donations can be sent directly to the church, with checks made out to “First Congregational Church,” P.O. Box 350, Wiscasset ME 04578. Please include a memo for “Summerfest.” Funds will be collected through the month of August and then distributed in the fall.
