United we stand, divided we fail
Dear Editor:
Over the decades Wiscasset has faced a variety of controversial subjects. At then end of the day we were all still on speaking terms, saying hello in the grocery store, cheering for each other’s children at a school game or checking in if someone was ill. We care about our neighbors and friends. We care about the people who serve our town. The great people in public works, police department, fire and EMS, school department and, yes, the selectmen too. That is small town living, the reasons we move here or born and raised. When the going gets tough, we will roll up our sleeves and get the job done. Even if we disagree.
We, as a town, face something new to us — deceiving and hateful behavior. I am watching tactics take place that will tear us apart. The subject at hand is teaching us as a community. Take a step back from the rhetoric. Do not let yourselves get pulled into exhibiting these same disgraceful behaviors. We need to have trust and faith in one another. As one voice and one example, we can say no! No to the lawsuit. No to dividing a tight knit community. No to outside influences clenching our tax dollars. If these groups wish to wave money in the faces of us common folk, let them continue to chase their own tails. We know who we are as a town, community, friends and neighbors. We all have one another’s back. It has always been our way. We have made mistakes sure. But we learn from them and make ourselves better for it! We have watched the infestation of questionable motives and less than neighborly folk before. They always come and go.
So I ask you, stay the course and keep your eyes focused on the future of Wiscasset. Let’s be one voice. Let’s stand united with class. If we let a small group of people keep us caught up and busy with distractions, we play right into their plan. We fall apart and divided we fail. Wiscasset is better than that and so are we! Stick together on our course my friends!
