Dear Editor:

We are writing to ask Wiscasset residents to vote for Terry Heller for the town’s Select Board. Since moving to Wiscasset from Texas five years ago, she has dedicated herself to revitalizing the historic downtown. Her enthusiasm, vision and energy has manifested itself in numerous ways.

She has been a volunteer leader in our community as head of the Appearance of the Town Committee—from planting daffodils on the common to rebuilding the historic landscape architecture in the Sunken Garden.

She has taken great interest in the work of the ordinances committee in helping come up with good policy for our new sidewalks, and worked hard with the Friends of Wiscasset Village to resolve parking concerns of the businesses downtown.

Currently, she is serving on the steering committee to establish an annual festival for Wiscasset that celebrates our schooner-building history and would bring huge economic benefits to the area.

Her 35 years of experience in policy writing and committee work at the state level in Texas will serve her well in taking on the policy issues that are facing the Wiscasset Select Board. We need someone with the fiscal policy know-how she achieved through years of service to legislative budget boards, public education agencies, and a state-level public-private economic policy center. She is a common sense analyst when tax dollars are on the line. 

We need new leadership energy to handle long-standing problems in Wiscasset. Terry Heller fits that job-description to a T. Wiscasset is lucky she chose to live here and devote her energies and experience to the town. Please vote for her on June 8.

Remember that annual town meeting voting will take place Tuesday June 8, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Wiscasset Community Center.
