This week at the Lincoln Theater
Well, we’ve waited and waited, and now it’s finally here – “West Side Story” opens at Lincoln Theater this Friday! Director Steven Spielberg displays his natural talents in his first ever musical, grabbing audiences with the opening sequence and whisking you away into their dazzling and heartbreaking world. A NY Times Critic’s Pick and Golden Globe nominee for Best Director, Golden Globe winner for Best Motion Picture, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress in a Musical or Comedy, “West Side Story” is an unquestionable must see on the big screen.
“C’mon C’mon” - (R; 1 hour, 48 minutes) - Children don’t come with a manual, but it turns out, neither does adulthood. Johnny (Joaquin Phoenix) and his young nephew (Woody Norman) forge a tenuous but transformational relationship when they are unexpectedly thrown together in this delicate and deeply moving story about the connections between adults and children, the past and the future, from writer-director Mike Mills. Final show times: Wednesday, Jan. 19 and Thursday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. (masks required – distanced seating – no concessions); and Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.
Talking Food in Maine: Intimate Conversations - Host Cherie Scott welcomes Amber Lambke of Maine Grains. A move to Skowhegan opened Amber’s eyes to the joys and challenges of rural living. Amber volunteered with the Main Street program and later co-founded the first conversation about revitalizing regional grain economies at the 2007 Kneading Conference. The Conference motivated Amber to find solutions and in 2012 she launched Maine Grains, Inc., a gristmill and local food hub in a renovated jailhouse inspiring positive ripple effects worldwide. Free event Thursday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.
“West Side Story” - (PG-13; 2 hours, 36 minutes) - Directed by Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Tony Kushner, “West Side Story” tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City. Love at first sight strikes when young Tony spots Maria at a high school dance. Their burgeoning romance helps to fuel the fire between the warring Jets and Sharks — two rival gangs vying for control of the streets. This re-imagining of the beloved musical stars Ansel Elgort (Tony); Rachel Zegler (María); Ariana DeBose (Anita); and Rita Moreno (as Valentina, Tony’s employer). Playing Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 22 at 2 and 7 p.m.; Sunday, Jan. 23 at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 26 and Thursday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. (masks required – distanced seating – no concessions) and at 7 p.m.
