“Jurassic Park” - (PG-13; 2 hours, 6 minutes) - The final film in our 2024 Summer Blockbuster series. A select group is chosen to tour an island theme park populated by dinosaurs created from prehistoric DNA. While the park’s mastermind and billionaire assures everyone that the facility is safe, they find out otherwise when various ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt. Final showing Thursday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m.
Talking Art in Maine with artist David Estey - In this free series, host Emily Sabino has one-on-one discussions with notable artists and curators who’ve made substantial contributions to the arts in Maine. Estey is an improvisational painter in Belfast. He holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and studied in Rome for one year. Estey served in the Army for four years as an illustrator at Fort Meade, MD; he earned a masters degree from George Washington University and had a federal career in public affairs. He also practiced, studied and taught art, including 14 years of figure studies at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and workshops with prominent artists in three states. In 1995 he retired from government work and began to exhibit successfully in PA, NC and Maine. His work is in private and organizational collections in 20 states and seven countries. Host Sabino is an abstract representational painter in Midcoast Maine. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across Maine and she is a Board Member of the Union of Maine Visual Artists, co-curating several exhibitions in 2024/2025. Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.
“Touch” - (R; 2 hours, 1 minute) - Discover what might have been. A film by Baltasar Kormákur based on the Icelandic best-selling novel by Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson. “Touch” is a romantic and thrilling story that spans several decades and continents. Touch follows one widower’s emotional journey to find his first love who disappeared 50 years ago, before his time runs out. Playing at 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, Saturday, Aug. 24, Wednesday, Aug. 28 and Thursday, Aug. 29; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.
