Spring is in the air! The birds are returning, the snow is melting, and the roads are getting muddy. Now, usually no one likes a snitch, but if you see a big truck rolling down a town road delivering rocks (or anything else), please let the Road Commissioner (350-9562) and Sheriff (882-7332) know ASAP. As us taxpayers know, roads are a big town expense, and this time of year a lot of damage can be done by one unscrupulous contractor pretending they didn't see the orange sign. Propane and oil trucks get a pass, and all trucks are OK if it's been below freezing for a few hours and things are frozen solid. If in doubt, snitch away!  

June 10 Municipal Election and RSU 12 Budget Referendum

Nomination Papers: While there's nothing brewing on the federal or state level for now (thank goodness), we do need to elect our Select Board Member #1 and our Road Commissioner this June. Nomination papers for those positions are available now and due April 11.

RSU #12 Budget Presentation:There will also be a referendum on the RSU#12 school budget on the ballot. Want to learn more? Join the Select Board for their meeting on March 24 at 6 p.m. here at the Town Office, when the RSU #12 folks will be in attendance to give a presentation on the budget. 

Absentee Ballot Applications Available: If you want to get your application in to have your ballot sent when they become available sometime in early May, you can now pick up an absentee ballot application at the Town Office, or print one out online and return it to the Town Clerk. Please see the Notice of Election online for more details! 

Town Meeting Prep: The Town Meeting isn't until June 21, but we're already hard at work. If you've got any thoughts on our ordinances, ideas for projects, or general input about the direction of the town, let the Select Board know at selectboard@westportisland.gov or (207) 882-8477, x.4. 

Cemetery Committee members needed: Did you know our Cemetery Committee maintains over 70 burial grounds? Right now they have 11 members, so you can do the math! Do you love history, honoring those who have passed, and doing good clean work outside? Sign up to join them! 

WCA Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, April 12 from 8 to 10 a.m., Town Hall, 1217 Main Road. Join your friends and neighbors for the annual WCA pancake breakfast! Plain and blueberry pancakes, butter and real maple syrup, sausages, coffee ... plus it's free! 

New cable internet service for Westport Island: Fidium Fiber is expanding their broadband cable service to the top two-thirds of the island. If you are interested in pre-registering for service, you can do that here.

Outdoor Activities Expo for Kids, Saturday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wiscasset Middle High School: If you've got kids, you know it can be a challenge to get them off their screens! This event will feature dozens of outdoor activity enthusiasts sharing information about a wide variety of things to do that don't involve a screen. Rockhounding, foraging, snorkeling, gold panning, birding, hunting, skateboarding, and many more! Free admission. 

Tax Help: Yay, taxes. Midcoast CA$H, an IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, provides free tax preparation by IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers to households earning up to $67,000 annually. Sign up here!

Grief Support Group, 10:30 a.m. the third Wednesday of the month. Town Office: Any community members grieving a loss of any kind are invited to come to the monthly grief support group.

Alzheimer's Support Group, 10 a.m. the second Friday of the month on Zoom: Caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer's are invited to join registered nurse Carol Norris every month for support and advice. Contact Carol at carolnorris2953@gmail.com or (207) 350-2721 for the Zoom link.
