At a special town meeting that took about six minutes in Wiscasset Monday, voters approved spending $124,491.71 from the undesignated fund, to cover several items.
The first was an overdraft for $97,574.67 in legal fees stemming from the Maine Department of Transportation litigation; the second was $6,437 for unemployment benefits; and the third was $20,480.04 for more public utility costs. Wiscasset Water District raise its rates in the middle of the fiscal year.
The moderator was Bill Maloney. Besides the selectmen, there were 13 voters. The vote on the lone article was unanimous. Prior to the vote, Judy Flanagan, who serves on the Budget Committee, spoke about her unhappiness that such an additional charge was necessary, but said she planned to vote for the expenditure.
