Wiscasset has trio of OUI arrests
There were a total of three operating under the influence (OUI) arrests in Wiscasset from Friday, March 18 to Sunday March 20, including one that involved a crash.
We would like to remind everyone not to drink and drive. The officers of the Wiscasset Police Department are being very proactive and it is not a matter of IF you get caught … it’s WHEN.
At about 8 p.m. Friday, Wiscasset Police Officer Nadean Crossley responded to a motor vehicle crash on Bath Road near Lil Mart at 695 Bath Road.
Scott Lane, 49, of Edgecomb was the driver of a gray 2004 Saturn. Daniel Dugay, 19, of Boothbay was driving a green 2002 Subaru
The Saturn was traveling northbound on Bath Road (Route 1) and while attempting a left turn into the parking lot of Lil Mart, failed to yield right of way to the Subaru, which was traveling southbound on Bath Road. Dugay tried to avoid the Saturn; however; the Saturn still struck the Subaru and caused it to go up onto the lawn in front of Lil Mart.
Dugay was not injured in the crash. Lane was transported to Midcoast Hospital where he was evaluated for injuries. Officer Crossley had smelled liquor on Lane’s breath at the scene and had gone to the hospital to investigate further.
Lane was determined to have no injuries from the crash and was subsequently transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail for a breath test. Sergeant Alfred Simmons administered the breath test and Lane’s alleged blood alcohol level was .28. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor. He was issued an arraignment date of April 28 in Wiscasset District Court.
At about 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Officer Benjamin Kolko arrested Donald James, 52, of Wiscasset on an OUI charge. James was driving a green 2006 Chevy pick-up northbound on Bath Road. Officer Kolko stopped him for a motor vehicle defect and subsequently determined James had been drinking. A subsequent breath test administered at the jail determined James’ alleged blood alcohol level to be at .08.
Then at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Kolko arrested Hayden Crowell, 22, of South Portland on an OUI charge. Crowell was driving a red 2009 Toyota sedan southbound on Bath Road when Kolko stopped him for speeding (38 mph in a 25 mph zone) and determined Crowell had been drinking. A breath test administered at the jail determined Crowell’s alleged blood alcohol level to be at .17 percent. He was subsequently charged with OUI.
