Wiscasset library opens Witlin exhibit Feb. 20 with talk by his widow
Phyllis Chinlund, the widow of photographer Ray Witlin, will open an exhibit of his work on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Wiscasset Public Library. She will give a slide presentation illustrating his photojournalistic endeavors, a quest that led him to some 55 countries working for a number of organizations over the years. Witlin died in 2002 at the age of 82.
Chinlund’s Illustrated presentation begins at 5 p.m. on the first floor of the library. The exhibit of 18 of his framed photographs is on the second floor, in the library’s Hortense Ferne Art Room.
Prints of Witlin’s photographs will be for sale and also the book, “Looking Back from the Gate: A Story of Love, Art and Dementia,” that Chinlund wrote about the last years of Witlin’s life when he was afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and they moved from Manhattan to Maine.
Come hear Chinlund talk about the career of her remarkable late husband, his artistic work, and their life together. If you cannot make it to the talk, visit the Art Room upstairs at the Wiscasset Library to view Witlin’s photographs. The exhibit will be on display through the end of March.
For questions about purchasing a print or a copy of the book, call Chinlund on 207-329-2229.
