Wiscasset police officer tests positive for COVID-19
On Monday, Oct. 26, the Wiscasset Police Department was informed that one of its officers has tested positive for COVID-19. Police Chief Larry Hesseltine immediately removed the officer from the schedule and the officer is now in quarantine at home. The officer last worked the night shift on Saturday, Oct. 24 and Sunday, Oct. 25. The officer was not on duty for the town the preceding five days prior to the 24th. The officer is exhibiting mild symptoms, which began Sunday, but have not required medical treatment.
The police department is currently closed to the public while it undergoes deep disinfection. The department’s cruisers have also undergone deep disinfection.
“We are working with the Maine CDC to conduct contact tracing with anyone who had contact with the officer while on duty,” said Town Manager Dennis Simmons in a press release.
Due to HIPAA regulations, the town is not publicly releasing the officer’s name. Further updates will be provided.
