Second annual Poetry Slam Oct. 27
The Chocolate Church Art Center announces the second annual Celebrity Poetry Slam. On Saturday, Oct. 27, this year’s event features local celebrities presenting their favorite Beatles’ lyrics at 7:30 p.m. in the annex of the Chocolate Church Arts Center, located at 804 Washington Street in Bath.
This uproariously creative evening focuses on the well-known lyrics and recognizes the incomparable Beatles as masterful poets. No singing. No music. Instead local elected officials, business owners, community leaders and media representatives will “slam” their favorite Beatles’ song through creative interpretation.
Comedian Johnny Ater, who was the grand champion of last year’s slam, will emcee. The audience plays an important role because the applause-o-meter rating after each celebrity is combined with the scores of the judges based on best style, interpretation and performance to determine of the participants.
The Annex of the Chocolate Church will become a beatnik coach house to showcase the creativity of Sheriff Joel Merry of Sagadahoc County; Allan Kozinn, who is a Beatles expert and freelance writer at the Portland Press Herald; Jonas Werner, who owns Azure Café in Freeport, and Bath city council chairwoman Mari Eosco, who are among the celebrities scheduled to appear.
Tickets are $15 in advance at $18 at the door for a fun evening of entertainment. Concessions will be available. The audience will experience the lyrical poetry of The Beatles like never before and vote as part of this special event to help raise money for the Chocolate Church.
