Audrey M. Lewis
Audrey Maass Lewis died peacefully on Oct. 18, 2018 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine. Audrey was a long-time resident of Cape Elizabeth, Maine and Naples, Florida.
Audrey is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard D. Lewis of Cape Elizabeth; sister, Lorraine M Neilson of New Jersey; daughter, Tracy and husband Larry Lydon of Cape Elizabeth; and sons Jonathan of Portland, Maine and Daniel of South Portland, Maine. Audrey has five grandchildren; Katie, Ben, Sarah, Claire, and Jonny, as well as two great-grandsons who were born this year.
Audrey was born on Sept. 6, 1932 in Passaic, New Jersey. The daughter of Harold and Isabel Maass, she graduated from The Kimberly School and went on to study at Green Mountain College in Putney, Vermont. In 1955 she married the love of her life, a young Dartmouth graduate from East Boothbay, Maine. He said, “stick with me and I’ll show you places you’ve never seen before” and together they saw the world. Audrey raised a family, traveled extensively, and made so many friends along the way.
Friends of Audrey will miss her sense of humor and sharp wit. Her family will miss the unwavering love and generosity she showed towards each of us. And anyone who ever fly-fished with Audrey will miss watching the exceptional cast she mastered over many years fishing for Brook Trout at Megantic Fish and Game Club.
Audrey’s family would like to thank all her caregivers from MMC Gibson Pavilion, Piper Shores Assisted Living, and Hospice of Southern Maine for the wonderful care and kindness shown towards Audrey and our family.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26 at the Spurwink Church in Cape Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Hospice of Southern Maine.
Arrangements entrusted to Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hobbsfuneralhome.com.
