Second Congregational Church, Newcastle Holy Week services
The Second Congregational Church of Newcastle, UCC has announced its Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter worship service plans.
On Maundy Thursday, April 18 the Office of Tenebrae will be observed in a special worship service at 7 p.m. This is one of the most poignant services of the church year as the story of Christ’s passion is shared through scripture, music, and prayer. Communion by intinction will be offered. As the service progresses, the lights dim with the service ending in darkness; worshippers leave the sanctuary in silence after the Easter candle has been lit.
On Good Friday, April 19, the church sanctuary will be open from noon to 2 p.m. for those who wish to come in for prayer and meditation.
On Easter Sunday, April 21, worship begins at 10 a.m. as the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ in the sanctuary. The service will include special music from the handbell and chancel choirs, and a brief sermon will be given by pastor Rev. Charlene Corbett.
The service is family oriented with a special message for families and children. A festive fellowship hour immediately follows the worship service. All are welcome at Second Congregational Church, no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey. The church is located at 51 Main Street in Newcastle, phone 207-563-3379 and at newcongo@midcoast.com.
