Sue Hochstein of Boothbay Harbor, Barbara Belknap of Damariscotta and Audrey Miller of East Boothbay attended the spring meeting of the Maine Daughters of the American Revolution in Auburn, Maine May 3-5 at the Hilton Garden Inn Riverwatch. They reported on the Conference events during the May Chapter meeting on Tuesday, May 14.

The Chapter received five awards from various state committees including American Indian, State Achievement, DAR Schools, and Women’s Issues.

Friday, May 3 included a tour of the Knight House one of Auburn’s oldest frame structures built in 1796 and a DNA Genetic Genealogy workshop followed by dinner of the State Officers and Chapter Regent’s Club. Mary Kay Felton, Regent of the Lady Knox Chapter in Rockland, gave the evening program on the history of Women’s Suffrage.

Saturday, May 4 the morning featured the state business meeting and nomination of new officers followed by lunch. The afternoon featured a DAR Student Tea with high school students from Maine who won the DAR Good Citizens award reading their essays. The evening dinner featured an update on Hillside School by Richard Myer, director of Alumni & DAR Relations.

Sunday, May 5 featured a memorial service for daughters who passed in 2018 and the installation of new state officers. The Pemaquid Chapter did not lose any daughters in 2018. Barbara Belknap was installed as a state officer, curator of the Maine State Room.

Regent Miller gave the Pemaquid Chapter annual report. Highlights include five new members and two new associate members, two Good Citizens Awards, a new Facebook page, a new Chapter website, Vietnam Flag flying in Wiscasset on March 29, 2018 and 2019, registered gardens with the Million Pollinator Garden Challenge, organized displays at local libraries celebrating Constitution Week and handed out Constitution booklets and flag brochures. The Chapter meetings included a recounting of the battle of the Boxer and the Enterprise off Pemaquid, the history of ice cream in America, making quilts for the Children on Indian Island, Maine and raising money with butterfly baths, and the Chapters exclusive Poppy Pins.

A new slate of Chapter officers to serve from 2019-2022 were voted into office on May 14. The Chapter officers are: Chapter Regent, Audrey Leeds Miller; Chapter Vice Regent, Louise Brown; Chapter Second Vice Regent, Barbara Belknap; Chaplains, Paula Clinton and Diane Randlett; Recording Secretary, Susann Hochstein; Treasurer, Barbara Belknap; Registrar and Historian, Miriam Buckley.

The next meeting will be held at the Lincoln Home Library, June 11 at 11 a.m., guests are welcome.
