Friends of Wiscasset Library plan fundraising event
Get out your calendar and note the annual “Bands for Books” party benefiting Wiscasset Public Library, on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The event, held since 2014, features live music, dancing, food, drinks of all kinds, and a silent auction. It is the library’s chief fundraiser of the year and is organized by the Friends of the Wiscasset Library.
The event again this year is at the picturesque Marianmade Farm overlooking the Sheepscot River in Wiscasset. And once again the lively band Salty Dogs will play, and dancing is encouraged.
The funds raised help support the maintenance of the historic library building, and help pay for the library’s programs and activities. The money raised this year will be used to buy and install a new front door in the library entryway and to help fund painting the interior of the library over the next few years.
In the past, funds raised at this event have been used to:
–Install a heat pump in the lower level Used Book Room, reducing the building’s energy costs;
–Install new custom shelving, carpeting and LED lighting in the Used Book Room;
–Replace many of the library's fluorescent lighting fixtures with LED fixtures, shaving an estimated $40 per month off the library's electric bill; and,
--Replace carpeting in the Children’s Room.
The funds raised also help support the Children’s Summer Reading Program, the spring cleaning of the building, the library's presence on the Wiscasset Newspaper’s Main Street Page, and the recent purchase of a projector to illustrate the many educational lectures held at the library.
So find your dancing shoes and plan to attend this fun event which greatly helps your local library.
