St. Philip’s Strawberry Festival this weekend
Come to 12 Hodge St. in Wiscasset between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 29 to experience the taste that says “Here comes summer” – strawberry shortcake: native strawberries, homemade biscuits, real whipped cream or Round Top ice cream. With quarts picked early that morning for sale, people can take strawberries away for later, too.
After chowing down on one or more hot dogs, make sure to attend the always fun and delicious pie auction at noon. Bring a fist full of cash and win one of the strawberry rhubarb, blueberry, apple, chocolate, or other pies whipped up by local bakers. It’s all in good fun, and all to benefit St. Philip’s and its outreach missions.
The day also offers a chance to do some early holiday shopping or find some neat handmade treasures by checking out local craftspeople’s handiwork. Everything from beautiful baskets to self-published books to paper crafts to felted items and more can be found at tables both inside and outside the church hall.
Need some new plantings for your yard? Stop by the plant table where cut flowers for the inside vie for attention with perennials for the outside. Take time, too, to check out the Red Knights booth to learn more about the firefighter motorcycle group that has formed in the Midcoast.
The silent auction has gift certificates and goods donated by local businesses and people. Bid early and often.
Remember to check out the church’s popular Bargain Basement, open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are many inexpensive finds just waiting to be scooped up. It’s a true treasure hunter’s paradise.
Entertainment includes Matt O’Donnell, man of many talents, strumming his guitar. Directly following the pie auction is a demonstration of Zumba fun led by Tonya Richardson, joined by other Zumba participants and instructors from the area. People of all ages and abilities should plan to get those happy feet moving and join in the dance party.
