Unintended consequences
Dear Editor:
The Supreme Court may just have created the current political environment with its unanimous Sullivan vs New York Times decision in 1964. Public officials may not recover damages for a defamatory falsehood relating to his official conduct unless he proves that the statement was made with actual malice.
Are there no longer any consequences for telling lies?
