Lincoln County Republicans hear from candidates, hold barbecue
Republicans convened for their monthly meeting at the Lincoln County Republican Headquarters on Route 1 in Damariscotta. The agenda was extensive, due to the shutdown, but enthusiasm was clearly in the air. We heard from several candidates in the upcoming elections. Dana Dow, Republican leader in the State Senate who is running for reelection, filled us in on what is happening, and not happening, in Augusta and what we might have to look forward to in the future. He is hoping for a robust rebound soon. Lowell Wallace updated everyone on the progress of his campaign for HD91. Merle Parise of HD90 stirred us all with his patriotic energy. And, Dr. Jay Allen, candidate for U.S. House, discussed the great progress his campaign is making including a new radio ad to come out soon. He advised that there is an Aug. 8 fundraiser planned for him. Details to follow.
LCRC awarded two scholarships from the Helen Weston Memorial Scholarship Fund. Eleanor Mathews, who graduated from Lincoln Academy, received $1,000. She plans to study pre-med biology at Lafayette College. Nathan Andrik, a graduate of Medomak Valley High, received $500. He plans to go to Husson to study criminal justice and psychology. Dana Dow did the honors for these two very fine young people.
Also discussed was the Flag Rally and barbecue held at headquarters on Saturday, June 27.
Upcoming, on Aug. 22, tentatively, we are planning a lobster bake in Newcastle. Details will follow but mark your calendars for the event. It was also mentioned that “Open Maine for Business” rallies are still occurring every other Saturday in Augusta. Many of our members continue to show up to support our Maine businesses.
The next meeting of LCRC will be July 22, location to be determined. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the business meeting starts at 7. During this time of COVID-19 there will be no drinks or food available. Hope to see you there! Stay safe and be well!
