SVRSU schools go all remote through Oct. 6 after one positive COVID-19 case and one probable one
Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit 12 Superintendent of Schools Howard Tuttle on Thursday, Oct. 1 issued the following COVID-19 positive case community notification letter. The district serves Westport Island, Alna, Windsor, Whitefield, Chelsea, Somerville and Palermo:
Dear RSU 12 students, families, staff and community,
This letter is to inform you that one individual associated with Windsor Elementary School recently tested positive for COVID-19 while another individual is a probable case. After contact tracing, we have determined that there may have been limited exposure to individuals at all four schools in RSU 12. We are informing you out of an abundance of caution. Please monitor yourself/your student for signs and symptoms. Call a health care provider if symptoms start. It is important that you call a health care facility before you show up in person. Stay home if you are sick.
Due to these circumstances, and out of an abundance of caution, RSU 12 will be implementing the following for Schools in RSU 12.
All schools in RSU 12 including Windsor Elementary, Whitefield Elementary, Palermo Consolidated, and Chelsea Elementary will do remote learning starting tomorrow, Oct. 2 through Tuesday, Oct. 6. Students will return to in-person learning on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
All schools and buses will be deep cleaned and we will monitor testing results.
If your student came in direct contact with the individuals at Windsor Elementary School, then you will be contacted directly by the school by phone with directions to quarantine as we wait for more information.
Editor’s note: The letter follows one a day earlier announcing a probable case associated with Windsor Elementary. Citing privacy for those involved, Tuttle again Thursday declined to state if the case and probable case are students and/or staff. There has been no exposure of SVRSU students who travel to Wiscasset for school, Tuttle said.
