Chowder to go at St. Philip’s
A to-go haddock chowder supper will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, with pick-up time from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Philip’s, 12 Hodge St. in Wiscasset. For a donation of $12 per meal, patrons can grab a pint of chowder, a biscuit, a piece of cornbread, and an apple crisp, then take it elsewhere to consume at one’s leisure. Whether at home distancing alone or gathering with friends, the chowder supper is sure to please.
People might remember St. Philip’s chowder suppers held for many summers. Well, even if you don’t, there’s a chance to experience the delight of its popular haddock chowder swimming in milky, buttery goodness. A delightful, cozy meal for a Saturday night supper in November!
Proceeds benefit the Feed Our Scholars (FOS) weekend backpacks of food for Wiscasset Elementary School students experiencing food insecurity. St. Philip’s Church and First Congregational Church of Wiscasset are the founders and primary caretakers of FOS and its Set For Success school supply program, but the group alone cannot keep these initiatives functioning. They need the support of the greater community, as well.
Hunger doesn’t take a break on weekends; therefore, the group supplies bags of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks for the participating children to bolster them until they’re back in school and accessing food there.
Currently providing for 46 students, FOS needs to generate funds to operate this effort, especially as food prices have increased significantly. Unable to hold in-person events, the group has chosen the next best thing: Take-away. Call St. Philip’s at 882-7184, leaving a name, number of meals ordered, and a return phone number for verification. Or message your reservations through Facebook@WiscassetFeedOurScholars. For planning purposes, FOS will accept reservations until Saturday, Nov. 13.
