Westport Island group seeks to aid homeowner on roof work
Some Westport Island residents are teaming up to raise funds to help repair a roof on a mobile home. The homeowner is trying to do their best but has lost days of work due to poor health caused by mold from a leaky roof, according to an email announcement from Gaye Wagner Monday night, Feb. 7.
Wagner, Mary Ellen Barnes and others have been spearheading an effort to get the funding for materials to replace the roof. A group of civic-minded residents formed a team to do the work of removing the roof and replacing it Thursday, Feb. 10 if funding could be secured. Helping Hands, the island food pantry, is accepting designated donations for the “Help a Neighbor Project.” Helping Hands is a 501(c)3, so all donations are tax deductible, the announcement stated. The mailing address is Helping Hands, 6 Fowles Point Road, Westport Island, ME 04578.
A subsequent announcement noted checks be delivered to the town office, and checks should be made out to "Helping Hands" with a notation for "Help a Neighbor Project.”
