Changing the world, one cup of coffee at a time
“Talking Food in Maine: Intimate Conversations,” is back Thursday, Feb. 16 with special guest Mary Allen Lindemann, co-founder of Coffee By Design. Join host Cherie Scott and experience how Coffee By Design stays true to its Maine roots while giving back to the local and international communities from which it is intimately connected. And you’ll have a chance to win some free coffee! Two lucky attendees will go home with a Coffee By Design Platinum Coffee Story box containing their limited edition coffees from around the globe and the stories behind them.
Coffee By Design is a Maine owned and operated specialty coffee roastery and retailer committed to changing the world, one cup of coffee at a time. In addition to serving some of the world’s finest coffee, they are committed to running a sustainable business dedicated to progressive arts and social change throughout Maine and around the world. Mary Allen Lindemann’s title of Community Builder illustrates the many hats she wears at the company, being a “good corporate citizen” while making social change happen in a unique and meaningful way. With regards to coffee, Mary Allen believes “it is an honor to represent the many farmers we buy from by serving a great cup of coffee while sharing the story behind the bean.” Actively involved in the community, Mary Allen is a founding member of several organizations which include Portland Buy Local, Women Standing Together, and the Olympia Snowe Leadership Institute. Most recently, her focus is on asylum seekers and immigration rights for those new to the United States and settled in Maine.
Talking Food in Maine is hosted by Mumbai native Cherie Scott who left India at the age of 16 and has been anchored in Boothbay for over a decade. In 2015, she launched a culinary blog to share her signature recipes and nostalgic anecdotes of her youth in Mumbai. In 2018, Cherie was invited to join a lineup of notable guest chef instructors at Stonewall Kitchen Cooking School where she curated an exclusive, regional Indian cooking series for 4 years. Cherie is now a guest chef instructor at the Milk Street with Christopher Kimball Online Cooking School, Boston. Cherie hosted and produced the Mumbai to MAINE podcast in 2020 showcasing some of Maine’s most accomplished culinary tastemakers, and in the heart of the pandemic, Cherie launched her signature line of gourmet Indian simmer sauces, Maine’s first Indian-inspired and award-winning culinary brand.
Mark your calendars for our next two guests - Barton Seaver, sustainable food expert and educator, on April 6, and Chef Christian Hayes, a seventh generation Mainer, Food Network’s Chopped Champion, and co-owner of The Garrison restaurant in Yarmouth, on April 27.
