Meetings on tap for Westport Island water study
During the Community Resilience Partnership (CRP) workshop last August, Westport Island participants ranked the protection and sustainability of our groundwater as the highest priority. The town has received a grant from CRP to gather data on groundwater conditions.
The Conservation Committee has developed a questionnaire to gather information from residents about the condition of their wells, and identify issues residents may be experiencing with the water. The study includes free water testing that can identify basic problems such as bacteria and iron.
To kick off the study, the Conservation Committee is planning two meetings to talk about the questionnaire and how to use the free well test kits. The meetings are at Old Town Hall, 1217 Main Road. There are two meetings covering the same information so that people will have the best chance of attending one of them: 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4 and 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 7.
