Westport Island water study update
On March 7, Westport Island’s Conservation Commission hosted an informational meeting for residents regarding the ongoing groundwater/well study. This study has been made possible through a grant to the town provided as part of the state-funded Community Resilience Partnership.
The meeting’s purpose was to provide information on the details of the study, introduce the geohydrologist working with us and give everyone the opportunity to ask questions. The meeting’s main focus was to present the plan to gather information from residents on their well and any related issues/concerns with either water quantity or quality. Participants were provided with a form that can be filled out and dropped off at the town office, mailed, or filled out online. Within a few weeks, the Conservation Commission will be mailing all island residents the form and instructions on how to fill it out. Commission members are available to help residents locate the information regarding their wells.
Later this year, all residents will be given the opportunity to have their water tested free of charge.
