Join the Jane’s Walk ME event in Boothbay Harbor May 6
On Saturday, May 6 at 1 p.m., John O’Connell will lead a Jane’s Walk ME, a Maine Preservation project, along Atlantic Avenue, Boothbay Harbor.
The walking tour from the Footbridge to the Fishermen's Memorial Park is only a few hundred yards yet is packed with history, stories, changes and scenery, according to the Maine Preservation website.
“We will start near the Footbridge, then walk to our Waterfront Park and finish up at the Memorial Park,” said O’Connell of the Boothbay Harbor Waterfront Preservation group, which was invited by Maine Preservation to participate this year.
There will be a number of guides/narrators during the walk, many of whom have long term connections with the east side. They will explain the fishing and boatbuilding history and locations.
Jane’s Walk ME is a free walking event that combines exploring a place with personal observations and civic engagement to open a dialogue about place keeping and cultural heritage in Maine. The annual festival takes place the first weekend in May in more than 200 cities and towns around the globe.
In its first year, Jane’s Walk ME boasted 21 walks in 11 locations around the state from Biddeford to Bangor.
All are invited to participate. For more information, visit www.mainepreservation.org/janes-walk-me
