Whale’s Tale and Carousel Marina make several improvements
We have been hard at work on the East side this winter! We knew we had a few things to do… We have built over 40 new docks which are now built to have the power lines underneath the boards to create a cleaner look and a safer environment for boaters. We also replaced six pilings on our most southern docks, where most of our yachts dock. We have switched over to Ethanol Free Gasoline on the gas dock! We are going to be the only marina in the region with Ethanol Free Gasoline, we will still have the Valvtect additives in the fuel as well. Unfortunately, prior to our purchase of the marina the fuel was not ethanol free, it contained 10% ethanol. It was important to us to provide the best possible product for our customers’ engines. For more exterior renovations, we resided the building, ripped out overgrown garden beds, re-laid our restaurant patio at the Whale’s Tale, and added a small patio in place of an old garden for people to enjoy the water views! We have all new patio furniture that is set up and waiting for you! Those exterior improvements are only what we have done! Brown’s Wharf also replaced some floats on their face dock and the foot bridge is getting redone! There is a lot of upgrades happening on the East side of Boothbay Harbor.
Many do not know the extensive marine store that we have here at the Carousel Marina, we have over 5,000 items, from nuts and bolts, plugs, anchors, batteries, safety equipment, to bait and tackle, and recreational items. If you need something that we do not have in stock we can order it and it will be here the next day! It is important to check all of your safety equipment before the start of the season, come in and gear up! We made a great effort to readjust the store to be shopper friendly, the space has become much brighter, much cleaner, and much more open.
For our transient customers, we updated all of our bathrooms, purchased new washers and dryers, and now have 24/7 ACCESS to these amenities! We will be happy to give you a tour upon arrival! Additionally, we added two “zoom rooms” for those who are working while exploring the beautiful Maine coast. Our WiFi has also been fully upgraded for boaters on the docks and on the moorings!
One of our favorite upgrades is… the brand-new East Side Market! We are now home of the only waterfront provisions in the region. Our market will be accessible by land and sea. We will be offering, beer, wine, and seltzers! No need to delay your fun on the water any longer, we got you covered! We will also have sandwiches and salads available in our grab n’ go case. If you just want an early morning coffee and breakfast sandwich before you start your day, we have that too! It is important to us, as a family, to properly fuel our bodies which is why our produce products are all certified organic. We will have a signature smoothie menu available made with healthy and organic ingredients. One of the most refreshing things in the hot sun is a nice cold & clean smoothie. If you are not much of a smoothie person, we will have acai bowls available as well in our grab n’ go! Just in case we missed anything, our market will have toiletries, grab n’ go food options, organic produce, meats and cheeses, beer, wine, and seltzers, coffee, smoothies, acai bowls, breakfast sandwiches, some classic Maine souvenirs, and some awesome apparel!
Whale’s Tale our restaurant has been open, for the first time, year ‘round. We had a great experience and appreciate all of the year ‘round residents who dined with us and never complained about the tight parking lot! The floats are in the water now and we have more parking for summertime! We closed for two weeks in April to renovate our entire kitchen, new equipment, new epoxy floor which was installed by New England Epoxy painted the walls, and reorganized what we have. We cannot wait to have everyone back in on April 18th. Our new furniture for the patio is ready for all to enjoy, we also have taken out the old bench which bordered the patio and have replaced it with the wire fence and a mahogany top. The restaurant will also now have Hüga heated seats available for the colder summer nights. We will be open seven days a week starting on May 15 and we cannot be more excited! You will never have to worry about when the Whale’s Tale is open! We are continuing with our Thursday Prime Rib Night, Sunday brunches, and Monday Mexican Night, entertainment every single night in July and August, and the most amazing sunset views!
We would like to specially thank Matt Rice and Sullivan Rice who helped Evan in the cold temps this winter to build over 40 floats in under six months. Thank you to their families as well for being so understanding of the long days and working the seven-day weeks during the holidays. We are thankful for all of the help we had along the way from Hawkins Custom Builders (Kyle Barnard), 19 Skies, Jody Lewis Excavation, WMS. Prescott Excavation and Construction, Jon Marsh, JD and Brian Warren, and Eric Ronshaugen for designing our awesome new logos! Most importantly, we would like to thank our family for being so supportive throughout this renovation process and helping with any and all odd jobs! Taking time out of their own busy days to just come say hi or driving eight long hours up from Philadelphia to do some heavy lifting. We appreciate you all!
