It was a back-to-back sold out weekend for the Opera House
For the first time in its recent 20 year history the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor had back to back sell out shows Aug. 3 with Bela Fleck and Aug. 4 with Garrison Keillor. Cathy Sherrill, executive director of the House, described the Fleck show as a “magical” 3-hour bluegrass concert. Fleck was joined by friends - Michael Cleveland, Sierra Hull, Justin Moses, Mark Schatz and Bryan Sutton, played a three-hour bluegrass show. The following night storyteller/author Garrison Keillor (of NPR’s Prairie Home Companion) stayed on the floor of the performance hall with the audience delighting all to a two-hour show. The 81-year-old shared stories from his childhood that most all of the audience could relate to encouraging everyone to enjoy every minute of their lives while remembering the those that had already ticked by, led a sing-a-long of songs from decades gone by, and ended the evening with an update of the goings on in Lake Wobegon ... “where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average.”
