Thoughts, a correction and more
With the news that the East Boothbay Post Office is closing its doors (at least for now), is it a sign that we may lose the other small post offices in the region? We have two smaller post offices – West Boothbay Harbor and Trevett – and the three largest ones, Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport. Trevett has battled the United States Postal Service in the past to remain open, with one of the reasons being that the Boothbay office was too small to handle the traffic. Let’s hope we can keep them all, including East Boothbay, to maintain the sense of community.

In my column last week, I misspelled the Lincoln County TV program, “Wuzzup,” on the second reference when I told about Larry Sidelinger and Bobby Whear reading the Aug. 3 edition of the Boothbay Register/Wiscasset Newspaper. It is online now on their website (LCTV.org). I feel I need to correct Larry’s pronunciation of Bayville (he called it Baileyville!). Maybe his glasses slipped while reading the paper!

We appreciate all who have commented via letters to the editor, for our articles and elsewhere regarding the high school/elementary school issue. It is an important decision that will be decided in a November referendum. Upcoming public meetings will offer more information on the proposed project and hopefully the public will be well-informed before the casting of ballots. The Register will be covering those meetings.

Hope you have enjoyed this “summer of wet” despite the downpours, drizzle and dampness. We always look forward to September and hopefully the weather will be as expected – warm days, cooler nights and drier!
