Dr. Faith J. Meyer
Dr. Faith J. Meyer of Boothbay Harbor passed away peacefully at St. Andrews Village on Sept. 1, 2023.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, she grew up in the West Hartford-Newington area. After high school, she earned her BS, MA and DPE degrees.
Faith’s 41-year professional career in physical education began with experience in both public and private schools. She returned to her alma mater, Russell Sage College in Troy, New York. Professor Meyer’s career at RSC spanned 31 years, where she held many positions of leadership including chairman of the Department of Physical Education.
She was the recipient of many New York State professional awards. The old RSC gymnasium is known at the Faith J. Meyer Gymnasium.
Drawn to Boothbay Harbor in 1956, a house was purchased in 1969 and permanent residency followed retirement in 1992. Enjoyment followed with participation in local organizations including the Boothbay Region YMCA, Coastal Club, Boothbay Region Historical Society (past president), Lincoln Arts Festival (past president), and the LAF Chorus.
Faith’s activities included collecting period whale oil and kerosene lamps and Sandwich glass pieces, singing, swimming, history, reading and the Jersey shore. She loved her family and friends, her cats and her house on the hill.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edward Bernard Meyer and Francis Yeager Meyer, as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Edward B. Meyer Jr. and Abbie Meyer.
She is survived by her niece, Robin Shaw; her nephew, Charles Meyer; and her dear friend, Jill Beebe.
Cremation will be private and a private interment will be in Newington, Connecticut.
