Queen Marie Antoinette’s Boothbay area links
People have long been fascinated with Queen Marie Antoinette’s dramatic 1793 beheading in a white death robe at the guillotine in France. This notoriety has prompted interest in her background and life. But did you know that she also had remarkable connections with Boothbay region sailors and sailing vessels?
In the last talk in our Summer Speaker Series, Aug. 8 at 4:30 p.m., historian Chip Griffin explores these stories, which include transatlantic shipping and fishing. And of course, this discussion wouldn’t be complete without including the Marie Antoinette house in our own backyard!
