She made her Broadway debut in 2006, in the Tony award-winning Broadway production of Spring Awakening, and then went on to perform, teach, and direct in New York City, and Philadelphia over the next decade. “Sing Sing” - (R; 1 hour, 47 minutes) - Divine G (Colman Domingo), imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, finds purpose by acting in a theater group alongside other incarcerated men, including a wary newcomer (Clarence Maclin), in this stirring true story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art, starring an unforgettable ensemble cast of formerly incarcerated actors. A moving celebration of art’s redemptive power, “Sing Sing” draws its estimable emotional resonance from a never better Colman Domingo and equally impressive ensemble players. “43 Degrees North” - with post-screening talkback (NR; 2 hours, 30 minutes) - The stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, and… aliens? When a world-renowned author inherits his recently deceased wife’s cottage on an island in Maine, all Raphael wants to do is sell it and move on. But strange things start happening, and for Raphael to accept his future as a widower, he may first need to accept that he’s not as alone as he believes. “43 Degrees North” was shot entirely in Maine with local actors, including Derek Kingsley in the role of Raphael; you may have seen Derek in the Lincoln Theater stage production of “Beauty and the Beast” (as Lumière). Funded through individual donations and volunteers, this film was designed to bring people together and drive interest in community filmmaking. For the first time in a movie, the Calendar Islands were brought together as a singular community. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with the filmmakers. One night only, Sunday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets: $15.
“Trusted Sources,” - with post-screening panel (NR; 1 hour, 6 minutes) As small town news outlets are closing at a rate of two per week, a case for why it is critical to stem the flow of shut downs is made by Don Colacino in his documentary, “Trusted Sources,” released on June 1 2024. We are proud to present the first public theatrical screeninig of this game changing film. An introduction to the film will be presented by Sharon Contillo, President of Women in Film. Roberts of The Lincoln County News, Frederick Freudenberger of The Boothbay Register, Jules Walkup of The Bangor Daily News, and Judy Meyer of The Lewiston Sun Journal.
