Burton A. Grant
Burton A. Grant, 91, of Bourne, Mass., formerly of Falmouth, Mass. and Boothbay Harbor, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at his home following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of 71 years to the late Mary S. (Davis) Grant.
Burton was born in Pemaquid, the son of the late Verdie and Myrtle (Osier) Grant.
Burton was a proprietor, along with his late wife, Mary, of two “mom and pop” convenience stores: The Village Cash & Carry in Boothbay Harbor and Mary’s Pop-In in Edgecomb. Burton and Mary also ran the Winthrop Motel in Winthrop.
Burton was a World War II Army veteran, builder and business owner. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was affectionately called “Bubba” by his grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burton is survived his by his daughter, Deborah Uzmann of Marstons Mills, Mass.; granddaughter, Kathleen and her husband Chris of Bourne; grandson Daniel and his wife Alison of Middleboro, Mass.; grandson, Joseph and his wife Jennifer of Clifton, Va.; and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Tanner and Sadie Ava.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. in the Waquoit Congregational Church, 15 Parsons Lane, East Falmouth, Mass. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, at 2:30 p.m.
